A “Menacing Paradise” Prada Spring Summer 2014 Campaign
Miuccia Prada presented her Spring/Summer 2014 collection during Milan Fashion Week, inspired by “the cliché of summer and the exotic“. “Menacing Paradise” was the name given the painted façades, wild and wonderful murals on the set walls.
Set with, in mind, bright tropical colors, palm fronds, sunsets, an equatorial town, a paradise lost, think From Here to Eternity, Hawaii in the 1940s, Pearl Harbor, Burt Lancaster, Deborah Kerr. Starring Dane DeHaan, of upcoming arachnid adventure The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a featured some stand-out hawaiian prints and relaxed, vacation-vibe soft suiting.
The collection featured a bold color palette, tropical florals and Hawaiian girls printed in elegant fabrics with male models languidly beautiful in their tropical prints, their silken blousons, and their generously tailored jackets and trousers. And all of this gives off the vibe that these men strutting in tailored jackets over shirts with tropical flowers were up to no good.
And as if these mysterious businessmen in their fiscal paradise were not enough, Prada dedicated 30 percent of the show was to women. All of the Prada elements you love in all the ways you hate, and isn’t that what she’s set out to do?
